Top 5 Captaincy Choices for RCB in the IPL 2022 season

The fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League is likely going to start on 2nd April 2022 and according to the reports, this season is planned to be played in India. The IPL 2022 season will have two new teams and the auction will be a mega auction event that will be held in January 2022.

All the teams have retained and released their players so that the two new teams, Ahmedabad and Lucknow can buy those released players through the auctions. The Royal Challengers Bangalore – RCB franchise too needs a lot of think tanks going around the auction. AB De Villiers had retired from all forms of cricket and Virat Kohli will not captain this franchise anymore.

So in the upcoming IPL 2022 auctions, the RCB Camp will have to look for the replacement of the South African Legend AB De Villiers in the middle order and they also need a new captain for this season of this cash-rich league tournament. Today we bring you the five captaincy choices for Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for the upcoming IPL 2022 season –

1. David Warner

The dangerous and dashing Aussie opener was the part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad till the last season. Warner had captained the SRH franchise and he led them in their maiden title win in IPL 2016 season. But in IPL 2021 season nothing worked for David Warner and he was removed from the captaincy and now he is no more with the orange army. Warner is the highest run-getter in this cash-rich league tournament and he is the only overseas player to be in the top five of the highest run-scorer. So far, David Warner has scored 5440 runs in 150 IPL games. Warner also has the experience of captaining an IPL side which will help the RCB team in the upcoming season. Instead of adding a new captain, the RCB management should go with Warner as their new leader.

2. Glenn Maxwell

The middle-order dasher and the spin bowler of the Aussie and RCB team had a tough time with the Punjab Kings in the earlier seasons. Maxwell also captained the PBKS side. But nothing worked for him even as a player later on. The IPL 2021 season was a turning point for Maxi’s IPL career. He was the highest run-getter for the RCB side in the last season. Glenn scored 513 runs in just 15 matches. He also scored six fifties, which is the most number of half-centuries in his IPL career. Now with the retirement of AB De Villiers, Maxi should hold the middle-order batting position for his Bangalore franchise and the management can also consider him as their new captain of the side for the upcoming IPL 2022 season.

3. Shreyas Iyer

The young middle-order batter of the Indian Team did well as the leader of DC – Delhi Capitals, but he lost his captaincy slot to Rishabh Pant due to injury and he wasn’t considered even when he was fully fit. Now DC has released him as a player and so RCB can think of making an Indian player as the captain of this franchise. Shreyas Iyer has a good experience of captaining the DC side. He led the team into their maiden playoffs berth and final in two successive seasons in the IPL. He is improving as a leader and batsman. Iyer’s association with Kohli and Maxwell might make him a captain for India in the future. Now Iyer has also been named to the Test team after his fantastic show in his debut Test match against New Zealand. In the Indian Premier League season so far he has scored 2375 runs. Shreyas Iyer promises to be a multi-format player for India in the upcoming years and RCB can also help the young lad in shaping his future.

4. Yuzvendra Chahal

The spin wizard of the RCB team has been going through rough patches despite giving a decent performance in the limited over games for India and RCB in the Indian Premier League. He was not included in the T20 World Cup 2021 which was played in UAE and Oman. Chahal gave a good show in the IPL on the same ground where the T20 World Cup was played. But the selectors ignored him for the ICC marquee event. After Virat Kohli, Chahal is the senior player in the RCB Camp and many believe that he should be the next captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. Yuzi has no experience in captaining an IPL side. But if the captaincy role improves his performance then he should take it because that may also open the doors for Chahal into the Indian team. Yuzvendra has been a leading wicket-taker for RCB in this cash-rich league tournament. Chahal is a consistent performer for many years. He has picked up 139 wickets in just 114 games. RCB should consider his consistency and seniority to offer him a captaincy role.

5. Suryakumar Yadav

The middle-order batsman, Suryakumar Yadav is the most promising youngster in the Indian team now. He has grabbed the opportunities with both hands and now he is into getting his maiden Test cap also. Surya has been the pillar for Mumbai Indians – MI in the middle order batting position. But still, the five-time champion team has not retained him. SKY had a poor outing in the last season of the Indian Premier League. But he can be the middle-order batsman which RCB is looking for and he can be the future captain of this Bangalore Franchise as well. Suryakumar Yadav made his IPL debut with the KKR – Kolkata Knight Riders Franchise and he was quickly in the MI camp. Now if RCB buys him in the mega auction then they should make him a leader of the upcoming season of IPL 2022. Surya will be an interesting choice as a captain. His consistency will have a huge impact on the RCB team and might also help them to end their IPL Trophy drought. So far, Surya Kumar Yadav has scored 2341 in 115 IPL matches. His good form and classy consistency should be enough to make him the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next season.
