Rohit Sharma, India’s Hit Man, was recently promoted as the vice-captain of the Indian Test team. The Indian team on the tour of the Proteas nation looked well set. But then this major news of Rohit Sharma’s injury has caused a worry amongst the fans. Rohit had just found his feet in the Test match cricket, especially in the overseas conditions. This injury is a huge setback for Team India ahead of this India’s Tour of South Africa 2021/2022.
According to the reports given out by the Indian Board, BCCI, Rohit Sharma has sustained a left hamstring injury while he was practicing at the Bandra Kurla Complex’s MIG Club. Still, there is no announcement of the vice-captain for this three-match Test series against South Africa, which begins on Sunday 26th December 2021 at Centurion.
Ajinkya Rahane was the earlier vice-captain of the Test Team of Team India. Now, without Rohit Sharma in the Test squad, it would be interesting to see who Virat Kohli’s deputy for this Test series. Maybe, this vice test captaincy slot might go to India’s number three test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara, as he also plays this traditional only.
The injury to Rohit Sharma has also raised concerns for the One Day International series. After the three-match Test series, Team India will play a One Day International series against South Africa. This ODI series will start at Paarl in Boland on Wednesday 19th January 2022. If Rohit Sharma is not fit, who will captain India in the fifty overs format series? Will Virat Kohli get the captaincy back for this ODI series? The team management and BCCI will have to answer these queries, which are ruing on the minds of every Indian fan.
Rohit Sharma has been practicing in the Bandra Kurla Complex for one week, and he has suffered a left hamstring injury during one of these sessions. Hit Man has been ruled out of the Test series as he complained of discomfort, and there is a doubt over his participation in the three-match One Day International series because the injury is termed a serious one.
Before leaving for South Africa, the Indian team is currently in a hotel in Mumbai, and Rohit Sharma is not in that hotel where the other team India members are in quarantine. The reports say that it has relaxed the quarantine for the Mumbai players and those traveling with their families. They advised the residents of Mumbai to home quarantine, and so Virat Kohli is also not present in that hotel because he resides in Worli, which is in Mumbai.
They named the replacement of Rohit Sharma
India will miss Rohit Sharma in the Test series. Hit Man was in good form. He did well in Australia and England. The BCCI has named Priyam Garg as the replacement for the Test series against South Africa. The Gujarat opening batsman is with the India A team in South Africa.
Priyam Garg has played three Test matches on the South African soil so far, and he has scored 120 runs with the highest score of 96 runs against the South Africa A team. Garg has Test match experience through first-class cricket matches. He has scored 7011 with an average of 45.24, and he also has scored 24 first-class centuries to his name. So Garg can use all his experience guiding India to their maiden series win in South Africa. India has also picked KL Rahul and Mayank in the Test team. The PBKS – Punjab Kings duo can open in the first two matches.
