The Indian Premier League 2022 season will have a new title sponsor. The IPL was earlier known as the VIVO IPL, but it will now be known as TATA IPL. The VIVO has pulled out from the title sponsorship of this cash-rich league tournament and allowing TATA to be the new sponsor of the Indian Premier League.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India – BCCI has decided in the governing council meeting that TATA will replace VIVO as their new Title Sponsor from the IPL 2022 season. This decision was taken yesterday, and IPL chairman, Brijesh Patel also confirmed this news by saying that TATA Groups is coming on board after the exclusion of VIVO.
Brijesh Patel has also said that the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchise has received their Letter of intent – LOI from the Indian Board. The CVC acquisition has approved the BCCI. The CVC Capitals is the owner of the new franchise Team Ahmedabad.
VIVO, the Chinese mobile company had brought the title sponsorship for 440 Crores in 2018. The VIVO and the IPL governing council had a deal for five years which was extended until 2023. But VIVO has opted out of this agreement despite a couple of years left with this cash-rich league tournament.
Now the governing council of the Indian Premier League has named TATA as their main sponsor for the IPL 2022 and IPL 2023 seasons. The secretary of BCCI, Jayesh Shah, has welcomed the TATA Groups on board. Shah said it is an occasion to celebrate as TATA Group, a hundred-year-old Indian company that operates across six continents 100 countries, will join the IPL as the main sponsor.
The TATA Group, which is a legacy of its own, has a spirit of growing cricket across international borders, just like the BCCI. The Indian Premier League has grown as the best franchise-based cricket league worldwide because of the efforts from the BCCI, and the board is happy that an Indian company that is the most trusted one will be a part of this cash-rich league tournament.
While discussing the letter of intent to Lucknow and CVC Capitals, Ahmedabad, the Indian Board has also spoken about the dates of the mega auctions. The BCCI has confirmed that the mega auction for the IPL 2022 season will be held in Bengaluru, and it will be on 12 and 13th February 2022. But BCCI is unsure about the time given to two new franchises of this tournament.
The board had planned earlier that the two news teams would get a couple of weeks. But the BCCI had also thought that the two new teams might not need a couple of weeks as planned for the new enrolments. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will do fine within just a few days. Before the TATA Group took over as the main and title sponsor of the IPL, DLF, Pepsi, Dream 11, and VIVO were the earlier main sponsors of this cash-rich league tournament.
