Big Bash League 2021 Finals: Match Preview and Where to Watch It?

The tenth edition of the Big Bash League, aka BBL, ends today. Two of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers, will be locking horns today.

Sydney Sixers have won the tournament twice. They were the winners of the first tournament, and they are the current title-holders. On the other hand, Perth Scorchers have won the league thrice. They have won the third, fourth, and sixth editions of the series.

Perth Scorchers qualified for the semi-finals seven times in a row since the inception of the league. They were the runner-up for the first two seasons of the tournament.

Both the teams have played against each other thrice in this season. Sydney Sixers won the first group match while Perth Scorchers won the second group stage match. In the qualifier match, Sydney Sixers handed a one-sided defeat to Perth Scorchers. They chased the target of 168 runs in just 17 overs and won the game by nine wickets. Do we have a pattern here?

Both the teams have some of the best performers from the league. Let’s look at both the team in detail.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers were at the top of the points table. They won nine out of the fourteen league games.

They have a sorted group of players who have looked after their top order and lower order. They have openers like Josh Philippe and James Vince. Both of them have provided them with a solid start. Philippe notably has been in the best of his form recently. He has scored 499 runs in 15 matches with an average of 33.27. James Vince scored 442 runs in 15 games with an average of 34. Vince also made the highest individual score for his team. His 98 off 53 balls came against Scorchers only in the tournament’s qualifier.

They have some hard-hitting all-rounders like Moises Henriques, Carlos Brathwaite, Daniel Christian, and Jason Holder.

Daniel Christian, the 37-year-old all-rounder who last played a T20 for Australia in 2014, is one of the best performers for Sixers. He has scored 252 runs with an average of 36 in 13 matches. He took 13 wickets in these matches.

Ben Dwarshuis has been the best bowler for Sixers in the tournament. In the 11 matches that he played, he took 21 wickets with an average of 17.43. Carlos Brathwaite has also taken 16 wickets in the league.

Perth Scorchers

They were second at the points table. After losing the qualifier to Sixers, they immediately bounced back in the Challenger game against Brisbane Heat.

In a rain-affected match, they made 189 runs in 18.1 overs. Brisbane Heat were never in the contest as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, they lost the game by 50 runs as well as the chance to play in the finals.

They have a team full of players who have performed exceptionally well in the bowling and batting departments.

Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, and Fawad Ahmed have been consistent with the ball. With Jhye Richardson emerging as the leader of the pack. Richardson has taken the most number of wickets (27) this season.

The trio of Colin Munro, Josh Inglis, and Liam Livingstone has been in superior form. While none of them have scored a century but they have recorded the fifties consistently.

The match is scheduled to start at 2:10 pm IST. You can watch it on Sony SIX, Sony TEN 1, Sony TEN 3, and Sony LIV.
